which any game engine worth its salt would aim for anyway so that performance can be tweaked. they just need to make their games scalable. the pr excuses they use dont really make a ton of sense.

Im a developer, and Ive done a bit of game development.
#DAYS GONE GAMEPLAY UPGRADE#
I actually saw a pr guy from control try using the same sort of bs excuse after they obviously didnt test the series s upgrade for control. Even on the cpu side for pc, most gamers are using the same few specs and/or slight variants of them. Its amazing how many times digital foundry is the one to reach out and tell publishers what it is wrong, why cant publishers do this on their own? It seems only certain devs do any kind of proper testing. With humanity devastated by a global pandemic and ravaged by feral creatures known as Freakers, any mistake could be your last in your attempt. Its not as if they are some huge team either. Scavenge through abandoned settlements for equipment to craft valuable items and weapons, or take your chances with other survivors trying to eke out a living through fair trade or more violent means.
#DAYS GONE GAMEPLAY PC#
Given it is an established game, and whatever bugs and problems weren't big and therefore big problems weren't predicted, I believe no.īut yeah, without an attractive open beta when your name reaches the market it will be exposed to a universe of settings that will eventually reveal stuff you could not detect on a lab environment.Ĭlick to expand. So much of this is just foolish, the guys at digital foundry can test performance for all kinds of platforms and pc configs in a week.
#DAYS GONE GAMEPLAY PATCH#
Now the amount that you can test and correct before can be bigger or smaller depending on how big of a pool your testers are, that's why some companies opt for beta testing with the consumer directly, but that's a pre-release cost that not all companies are able to afford, or in case of HZD, even if they could with the might of Sony, could they really attract people to beta test an already released game? And even if the answer is yes to all of this, they'd still have to balance if that cost would justify not just releasing the game and patch it in the following days. But a port such as HZD uses it's own engine, developed for PS4, that has to be ported too. Now, your development effort can be cut shorter if you use a game engine like Unreal that is developed and tested over a long time for PC and used in multiple cases. You still have to do resource management, including video memory management and CPU, Ram etc and have to account for not only size but processing power to manage you game specs to a playable level on a target range of PCs.

The driver's API isn't a magic wand and you do not even technically worry with that. 28 Minutes of Days Gone PC Gameplay (4K) 325,713 views Get a glimpse of the first 28 minutes of gameplay from Days Gone on the PC in 4K. If you want to see all of the gameplay for yourself, you can find it further up the article.Yeah, no. In the Days Gone alternate gameplay he goes in guns-a-blazing, fighting his way up to the location where his friend is being held hostage. In the original footage he causes a horde of Freakers to attack their camp. Back then we could only hear the aftermath (the bandits trying to get the victim to be quiet and then shooting him when he won’t) but in this version we see how the situation plays out.įinally, there’s a different way that Deacon goes about saving his friend, the object of the mission. He does this by causing a distraction to lure one of them into a bear trap. In the E3 showing, Deacon had to sneak around a bandit camp that was near a horde of the game’s zombies, known as “Freakers”. The Days Gone alternate gameplay also gives us a few new perspectives on things. and gurgling out battlecries even when wounded, bleeding out and missing limbs. In this version, Deacon is able to spot the trap and go around it, easily taking care of the bandits and disarming the trap. Players seamlessly travel through different dimensions in mid-gameplay. They wanted to expand upon the excellent emergent, systemic gameplay of the first game, while layering new gameplay ideas and mechanics on. For instance, in the original demo, Deacon is the victim of a trap set by bandits as he rides full-tilt into a tripwire across the road, knocking the wind out of him and leaving him (temporary) easy prey for a pair of bandits. For Days Gone 2, Sony Bend had several interesting ideas.
